1875, 9th July: Bombay Stock Exchange, the country’s first stock exchange, was established.

1877, 9th July: The inaugural Wimbledon Championships began.

1893, 9th July: The first successful open-heartsurgery took place on Chicago’s South Side by Dr. Daniel Hale Williams. The patient was James Cornish, a young man with a knife wound to the chest from a barroom brawl.
