During his visit to France, Prime Minister Modi was honored with France’s highest civilian and military honor, the ‘Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour,’ by French President Emmanuel Macron. This makes him the first Indian Prime Minister to receive such an honor. He also attended the French National Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour, joining the ranks of other notable awardees such as Nelson Mandela, King Charles, Angela Merkel, and Boutros Boutros-Ghali.

The Ministry of Defense and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote the use of millets and healthy eating practices among the Armed Forces. This initiative aims to ensure safe and nutritious food for the personnel. The MoU signing ceremony took place in the presence of Rajnath Singh, the Defense Minister, and Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Minister of Health. As part of the event, they also unveiled a book titled ‘Healthy Recipes for Defence,’ which further promotes the cause. G Kamala Vardhana Rao serves as the CEO of FSSAI.

A new book titled ‘Prism: The Ancestral Abode of Rainbow’ was released at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The book, authored by Vinod Mankara, a National award-winning filmmaker-writer, is a collection of science articles. The release ceremony was attended by S Somanath, the Chairman of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation), who handed over the book to S Unnikrishnan Nair, the Director of VSSC (Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre). The publication is brought out by Lipi Books, based in Kozhikode.

India is set to host the Conference on Traditional Medicines for ASEAN Countries on July 20, 2023. The conference is a collaborative effort of the Ministry of Ayush, the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Mission to ASEAN, and the ASEAN Secretariat. The objective of the conference is to strengthen the platform between India and ASEAN Countries, enabling them to share best practices and establish a roadmap for future cooperation in the field of Traditional Medicines. ASEAN, founded on August 8, 1967, with its headquarters in Jakarta, is an important regional organization.

INS Sunayna, a naval vessel of the Indian Navy, participated in the ‘Op Southern Readiness 2023’ exercise conducted by the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) in Seychelles from July 10 to 12, 2023. The exercise aimed to strengthen multilateral ties and enhance cooperation among participating navies. It is a multinational initiative focused on enhancing maritime security, countering piracy, and ensuring the safety and freedom of navigation in the region. The exercise involved the navies of the USA, Italy, UK, Seychelles Defence Forces, Marine Police, and members of EUNAVFOR.

Justice Alexander Thomas has been appointed as the acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court, following the notification issued by the Central Government. He replaces Chief Justice SV Bhatti, who was transferred to the Supreme Court. Justice Alexander Thomas was initially appointed as an additional judge of the Kerala High Court on January 23, 2014, and later became a permanent judge on March 10, 2016. He has also served as a government pleader and senior government pleader in the High Court of Kerala.

The Defense Acquisition Council (DAC), headed by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, approved several proposals. These include the acceptance of the necessity for procuring 26 Rafale Marine aircraft from France, the procurement of three additional Scorpene submarines under the Buy (Indian) category, and the establishment of guidelines to promote indigenous content in all categories of capital acquisition cases.
